A region with a rich equine heritage



Admire the galas of the Cadre Noir of Saumur. A land of horses, Saumur was the birthplace of the Cavalry School, the National Riding School and the Cadre Noir in the XVIIIth century. The Parc de l'Isle Briand, in Le Lion d'Angers, is the scene of the famous Mondial du Lion, which brings together the finest riders from around the world in eventing. Not forgetting the numerous and famous horse races in Anjou.


The many horse-riding clubs in the Loire Valley will delight young and old alike during beautiful rides.

Finally, discover Anjou from the air with the Angers-Loire airport, where all types of aircraft land on the runways, from the Airbus A320 to microlights. Next door, the fascinating Musée Régional de l'Air is worth a visit. Hot-air balloons flying over the bed of the Loire or the gentle meanders of the Loir take off from various points in the department, including the castle of Chambiers.
